About me
Hi, my name is Meghri Dervartanian. I was born and raised in America. I have always had a love for the Armenian language and have continuously tried to find ways to strengthen and expand my language skills. In 2019 I graduated from UMASS Boston with a bachelors degree in Business Management and concentration in Marketing. Soon after I realized that business was not the right path for me and went back to school to get my masters in Elementary Education from Lesley University while working at St. Stephen's Armenian Elementary School as the Armenian teacher's aid for two years and the 2nd grade teacher's aid for a year as I finished up my masters.
In the spring of 2022 I decided to apply to the INALCO Diploma Program in Teaching Western Armenian in the Diaspora, which is based in Paris, France. The program’s goal is to improve the training of current and future teachers of Armenian in the diaspora. I finished my classes at the INALCO university in July, 2023. I currently teach private Armenian language lessons in my classroom based in my house throughout the week. I am also an Armenian children's book author, I published my first children's book called «Հպարտ Հայ» (Hbard Hye/ Proud Armenian) in 2020 and my second book «Դէպի Արարատ Լեռ» (Tebi Ararat Ler/ Towards Mt. Ararat) in 2023. Recently I published two new books called «Կոմիտաս Վարդապետ» (Gomidas Vartabed) and «Վհուկը եւ իր Աւելը» (Vhooguh yev ir Avele).
“Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going”
My mission
Growing up in the diaspora is hard, it is a constant struggle and fight to keep our culture alive. Not everyone has the privilege to attend Armenian school or speak Armenian at home, I hope to be a resource and a tool to those who wish to learn and expand their Armenian language skills. Our culture is the essence of our identity, and our language is a key part of it. It is up to us to keep it alive.
